We have 25 years between MK and MK X, and they were really cool about letting us play and the only thing they asked was, "Are you going to make room for the new characters?" And absolutely. NetherRealm has been super gracious with letting us tell the best stories so we can tell. Image courtesy DC Entertainment IGN: How much say did you have in which characters you got to use for the comic? Kittelsen: A lot. And then from there, there are so many classic characters, but I'm really excited to introduce a lot of new characters to readers, too. Kittelsen: It's an opportunity to flesh his character out in new ways but keep him really true to himself. He takes a turn that we haven't seen before and we get to spend a little bit more time with him. IGN: Do you have a specific favorite character? Kittelsen: Scorpion! Scorpion is kind of the measure of all things in Mortal Kombat and in a lot of ways, this book pays that off because he is this really huge character. It took all the things I loved about the stories in the nineties and it made it all real, so I feel really honored to be able to contribute to that. I ended up working with them on Injustice when I was at DC, and they take their story so seriously that they brought so much more to the characters.

And for this to be my first book to come out is a pretty massive deal.
I think every kid who grew up in the nineties should be a fan, in some way, shape, or form. IGN: So, you're a big fan then? Kittelsen: You could say. IGN Comics: Mortal Kombat! How excited are you? Shawn Kittelsen: When I got the phone call, I ran around my house screaming "Mortal Kombat!" at the top of my lungs.
