If you ever intend to play online, you'll need Revelator and the Rev 2 DLC, since people only play Rev 2 now. Gameplay wise, it adds 2 characters and makes lots of small changes here and there. Story wise, it has 3 short movies taking place after Revelator's story mode. Single player modes were improved too, the tutorials are better and there's more stuff to do and unlock. The story is a sequel to Sign, the game includes new characters (both returning veterans and brand new characters), big changes to the gameplay for all the characters as well as system mechanics and in general it's a massive improvement over Sign in every aspect. Revelator was intended to be DLC for Sign, but it ended up being its own game.
It introduced new mechanics, moves and characters, while also stripping away most of the mechanics from Accent Core. Sign was the first in the Xrd series, which began a new story that continues from Guilty Gear 2 -Overture.
